Nenad Perunicic, assistant coach of Serbia’s national team, Nedeljko Jovanovic, commented on the performance of the national team in the upcoming World Cup in Germany and Denmark, and announced a match with Bahrain (Saturday, 18h) in Copenhagen.
Our team arrived in the capital of Denmark this morning, and tonight is expecting training before tomorrow’s match:
– Definitely the result is quite disappointing. I was intimately expected to be a little better. I knew that there would be problems and that this team was coming together for the first time without much preparation days. I expected a bit more maturity, stability, control of the game, when we already showed that we can fight with big opponents and come to the situation that we have the advantage. This immaturity of the newly formed team with 6-7 debutants has influenced that we can not maintain the level of all 60 minutes. These are some things that are variables that should be worked in the future with perhaps adding some more players. This Championship is a valuable experience both for players and for professional staffs. Players will mean that they see on what level and which things they need to pay attention if they have the desire and the will to achieve better results in the next competitions – Jovanovic said and added:
– It’s sad that if someone accepts that it can not be better, this is some fact and situation. It might be better, the guys showed that it could be much better, because the phase was bad, but also a good game that pulled us out of the dead. It is necessary to find a balance, with experience, good work in clubs, a psychic readiness for big competitions and the knowledge that these physical and mental efforts are waiting for in such a tournament.
The next rival is Bahrain. The third time they are at the World Championships. Previously, twice ended in position 23, and this will be the best result in history …
– We do not have much information about Bahrain or Japan. Nobody thought that we would be in a situation with them to play. Our target group was European selection. Brazil surprised us again, as in 2009. It’s proof that everyone is playing handball, everyone is progressing and struggling to be better. You should not expect a training game, but they will fight. We must adequately respond to that, to consolidate after all these efforts in the group and finish the championship with two good games and victories.
