After a break of almost half a year due to the coronavirus, the handball players of Vojvodina have started preparations for the new season, in which they will compete on three fronts: the National Championship, the Cup and the regional Seha League. The head of the professional staff, Boris Rojevic, and the management of the club pointed out before the start that the primary goal is to win domestic trophies.
- Coaches have never found themselves in such an unenviable situation as is now the case because of this situation with the virus. It is very difficult to organize and plan trainings in a season in which it is unknown when they will start, at what pace they will play … This is a new experience for coaches, but we must look positively, train to the maximum and hope that everything will be normal. take place. In case of new difficulties, we will adapt to the new situation, said coach Rojevic.
This summer, six newcomers arrived in the team, and the champion has a team for the highest achievements?
- The team is better defensively than last season, maybe we need one shooter to be attacking at a high level. This season, we will force the game with two midfielders, following the example of the Croatian national team. We will try to bring back the game we had from two seasons ago when we were dominant and won all the trophies in the domestic competition, as well as when we won in the Seha League and made surprises.
In the interrupted season, Vojvodina lifted two trophies, the All-Serbian Cup and the Super Cup.
- We are starting the competition this season with the Serbian Cup for last season, which in my opinion is not the happiest solution. Still, we go with ambitions to win it. The biggest ambitions are related to the championship title and the National Cup. It is for these two trophies in the spring that we will time the form. We are aware that it will not be easy because it is always harder to defend trophies than to win them. But, I believe in these guys who were selected by the sports director Darko Jevtić and I,
The current champion this year, as well as Metaloplastika, according to the agreement with the Arcus League, will not perform on the Euro-stage, but a regional competition awaits them.
- According to some unofficial information, the Seha League should start in September as a tournament. Four teams would meet in one place and play each other. It is again a new challenge, which we coaches have not encountered.
This year, the Super League is being played in a new format, in two groups, where all Vojvodina teams are in Group A, with Partizan and Dubocica.
- I like the new format, because the teams that play in the Seha League and play in Europe have the right to make mistakes in the domestic league, with the proviso that they could represent Serbia in the best light on the international scene. In the second part, we get an extremely high-quality league of eight clubs, which is the essence of the competition, Rojevic pointed out.
The handball players are preparing at the „Karađorđe“ stadium and in the open-air gym in the Promenade. Friendly matches will start in the third week of preparations, if conditions allow.
