PROMOTION OF THE BOOK “ 3: 2: 1 BACK TO BASIC “ AT THE FACULTY OF SPORTS!

The Faculty of Sports of the University „Union – Nikola Tesla“ will host another book promotion on Wednesday, September 30, at 5 pm, which will undoubtedly have a significant impact not only on handball in Serbia, but in the entire region. It is a book by a prominent handball expert, a graduate of basic and master’s academic studies at the Faculty of Sports Dragan Đukić, entitled „3: 2: 1 – return to the roots“.

– The book talks about defense as the most important element of every game, even handball. In this particular case, it is a famous defensive formation, characteristic for many years for the Yugoslav school of handball and all its specifics. For unknown reasons, the topic itself has never been written in our language, and that was one of the reasons why I decided to enter this whole project – Dragan Đukić begins the story, talking about the motives to write the book and adds:

– Also, I wanted to bring one such specific game in defense closer to those who did not have the opportunity to get to know it in detail, and to show that such a defense system is alive and applicable in today’s handball. At the same time, it was the defense that the Yugoslav national team brought into the world of handball, by which we were recognizable and which brought us the first medal at the 1970 World Cup and gold at the 1972 Munich Olympics when handball was first present. at the world’s largest sports festival. It has been a trademark of the Yugoslav handball school for 50 years – Djukic reminded and pointed out that in addition to ours, the book was also published in English.

At the promotion of the book „3: 2: 1 – return to the roots“ at the Faculty of Sports, he will speak „cream de la cream“ of handball from this area, which is the best indicator of the importance of the topic he talks about:

– It is my great pleasure that among the people who will talk about the book will be Dragan Adzic, longtime coach of Buducnost and selector of Montenegro, who is also the reviewer of the book, then the prominent coach and legendary selector of our national team Zoran Tuta Zivkovic player of all time and celebrated handball expert Veselin Vujović. I am extremely honored that the introductory speech on the importance of professional literature in sports on that occasion will have a respected professor at the Faculty of Sports, Prof. Dr. Vladimir Koprivica.

Dragan Đukić is the holder of the title of master coach in sports, which he acquired at the Faculty of Sports, and he had only words of praise for the study program Coach in Sports:

– I had the pleasure and privilege to cooperate at the Faculty of Sports with Professor Franjo Fratrić, who was an exceptional pedagogue, top expert, practitioner and theorist. Working with him was something unique and ennobled and shaped all of us who had the opportunity to work with him. The special relationships we had and built and the way of thinking he passed on to us was something special. It was a great privilege to have him as a mentor, and his premature departure is a great loss for the sports and scientific population.

Dragan Đukić has a rich coaching career behind him. He led several domestic and foreign clubs such as Red Star, Metaloplastika, PIK Szeged, Skopje’s Vardar, CSM from Bucharest, and he was also the coach of Montenegro, Israel, Great Britain, Switzerland, Macedonia and Jordan.

In his last engagement, he was in a slightly different role:

– I was in the role of the director of all selections of the handball federation of Georgia and I used that as an opportunity to affirm a larger number of our young coaches. Nikola Maksimović worked as a national team selector, Damir Stojanović got a chance with the juniors of Georgia, Marko Šešum as a fitness coach, and Darko Grbić in his work with the younger women’s selections. I tried before, while I was in Israel, to try to affirm some of our young coaches, because I think they are talented experts who have a lot to say and show.

Dragan Đukić is also the holder of the prestigious EHF Master Coach title, and he is especially dedicated to the education of players and coaches, so for years he has been a lecturer at numerous seminars in the country and abroad. He is especially proud of the online workshop called „Days of Serbian Handball“, which he realized this spring with his colleague Akim Komnenić:

– The idea was to exchange experiences, something that represents the very essence of the game. The workshop that we realized during two months was very noticeable and through it we tried to reaffirm something called ex YU handball school. We had about 15 different tribunes in which coaches from the republics of the former Yugoslavia participated, who talked about various topics, starting from theory and tactics, through physical preparation of players, statistical monitoring of the game, to working with goalkeepers. We are bound by the same language, sports roots, so even though we have taken different paths in the last 20 years, we thought that there were many reasons to share some new energy.

Also, Dragan Đukić is the idea creator and founder of the „Handball4all“ academy, which has been held in Serbia since 2011.

– Every summer in the last week of June, this academy gathers handball people from all over the world. The work at the academy is mostly connected with similar camps for younger ages, but this is a completely different project. About twenty of the most talented players from all over the world, from America to Japan, from Denmark to Iran, players who came out of the junior drive and are at the crossroads of their careers, come to the academy. The project also involves 10-12 coaches from all over the world who follow the work, because we believe that by changing „only“ the players, we are not changing anything. What we really want is the exchange of experiences to be two-way, and among the lecturers were some really big names like Bob Henning, Dragan Adzic, Stefan Olson, Carlos Ortega, Dejan Peric… We try to promote a different way of education at the academy, individual approach to each candidate and that is what we are specific about – concluded Dragan Đukić, a man who is trying to bring handball back to its roots in this area.

Due to the epidemiological situation, the number of guests is limited and it is not possible to attend without an invitation.
