Boris Rojevic is one of the youngest coaches in the Serbian league with as many as 33 consecutive months without defeat in all domestic competitions. Since he sat on the bench of Vojvodina on March 20, 2018, he has not suffered a defeat in his handball home in Slana Bara.
Rojevic is an offshoot from the coaching youth school of RK Vojvodina, and he has also won seven consecutive trophies (Two Super Leagues, Two Serbian Cups, Two Serbian Super Cups and the All-Serbian Cup). Apart from Rojevic, the credit belongs to all members of his professional staff from assistant Dragan Kukic, fitness coach Aleksandar Tunguz, goalkeeper coach Dejan Anicic, scouting and analysis coach Milan Mirkovic, as well as associates from the youth school Zoran Abramovic and Dejan Radonjic.
You are one of the most successful coaches in Serbia, how do you look at it and what is your ultimate goal?
– I am proud of the success, which is a consequence of the commitment and dedication to the coaching profession, as well as the good cooperation between the club’s management and the professional staff. My goal is to continue with good work and good results and to progress as a coach.
How do you rate 2020 as the handball year?
– A specific year in which the virus disrupted the competition for a long period of time. The year we had to be coaches, doctors, psychologists. Great experience for all of us. We had to play in front of empty stands and find ways to motivate the team.
You are finishing 2020 without a defeat in the domestic championship, what do you expect in the playoffs?
– With the victory in Leskovac, they would end the year without defeat, there is a great atmosphere in the team. I am very satisfied with the results and the game. We have the strongest play-off in the last 5 years. Five teams will have equal chances to win the title. They transfer the role of the favorite from which we do not run away, but we remember the last two championships when Zeleznicar failed to cope with the role of the favorite of the championship. We will try to enter the playoffs ready not only tactically but physically and mentally for all the temptations that await us.
What does Serbian handball need for a better future?
– We need quality people and bigger investments in clubs. Especially in the younger categories, which must have a single Serbian league, clubs must go to as many international tournaments as possible. Coaches to go to training. I was lucky that the management of my club provided funds and enabled us to compete in a large number of international tournaments, where we gained huge experience and knowledge, concludes Boris Rojevic
