After a long break caused by the coronavirus, handball is being played again in Serbia. After the victory in Novi Pazar and the defeat in Belgrade by Rudar, Obilić will meet Crvena Zvezda in the Belgrade Cup in the next game. Obilic’s coach Danijel Pektovic first summed up the reinforcements for this season.
I am satisfied with the players, but we miss the pivotman who went to another team the day before the start of preparations. We are quite weakened in that position. He hopes that we will soon be able to find a quality pivotman, despite the fact that the offer in that position is very weak.
There has been a change in the system of competition in the Arcus League, how do you like the group in which Obilić is?
I would prefer that the league is not divided into two groups and that all sixteen teams play together. It means a lot to the teams when they have the opportunity to compete with Vojvodina and Metaloplastika, Partizan and other famous names. Matches with such opponents fill the stands, but considering that there will be no spectators, I understand this decision. As for our group, I think it is pretty evenly matched and anyone can beat anyone. We have a big fight ahead of us with each team.
A CUP match against Crvena Zvezda awaits you, what are Obilić’s ambitions in this competition?
We always go for the win. This match comes at an awkward time due to injuries to several players. We will give our best to get as far as possible in the CUP, but the focus remains on the league and the game that awaits us next weekend.
After the defeat by Rudar, you will play a match in Arandjelovac against Chamotte.
The defeat by Rudar disturbed us a lot. After the victory over Novi Pazar, the players took off mentally. I tried to put them down because we had a game with a great team waiting for us, but unfortunately we didn’t play well enough. During the entire match, we were in counter-rhythm and the team from Kostolac knew how to use that. We are now burning under our feet, as well as the Chamotte team. Both teams must win and I am sure that a real men’s game awaits us, concluded Petković
