Five months after the last game in the 2019/2020 season, the PPD Zagreb handball players went out on the field and played with Gorenje, which was better in the eerily empty Arena Zagreb – 22:20. Zagreb’s new coach, Igor Vori, however, saw no reason to worry, given that preparations are beginning.
- It is not nice to lose a single game, but considering the five-month break and the training process in which we are currently, all this was seen to be expected. What we can be somewhat satisfied with is the last 15 minutes of the defensive part where we functioned very well. This is another indicator that we cannot play to experience or „today I will – tomorrow I will not“, but every training to the maximum. What we wanted was to try all 18 players, where we rotated a lot and saw who could function with whom and in which formation. There were things that were good, but there were also things that we knew before the game that we had to work on. Now we have received confirmation, both from the coaches and the players that they have to listen and work extra.
Zoran Jovicic, the coach of Gorenje Velenje, was satisfied, but he also points out that these are games to play.
- These are friendly matches that serve to play. Both teams are in a difficult training process so this is not a realistic picture. I hope that both teams welcomed this match and that positive things will come out. I wish the Zagreb team luck in the future.
